German Hanger Safety and Permissions

When hundreds of guests sit under one roof, safety comes first. A properly built German hanger is designed for large events, but safety depends on the structure, the setup and how the event is run. Here is what to check.

Wind and rain

The aluminium frame is engineered for the loads of a large roof, and the PVC fabric sheds water. The structure only performs as designed when it is anchored correctly for the ground it stands on and is assembled by trained crew. Ask:

  • How the frame will be anchored on your type of ground.
  • Which wind speeds the structure is designed for, and what the supplier’s stop-work limit is.
  • How rainwater will drain off the roof.
  • What the plan is if a storm warning is issued during the event.

Do not hang heavy decor, trusses or lights from the frame unless the supplier confirms the load limit.

Fire safety

  • Ask for a fire-retardant roof and wall fabric.
  • Keep cooking and generators away from the fabric, with clear separation and proper placement.
  • Mark and keep clear several exits spread around the hall.
  • Keep fire extinguishers in visible, reachable spots.
  • Keep electrical wiring tidy, insulated and protected from water.

Crowd safety

  • Do not exceed the crowd the layout was designed for.
  • Keep aisles and exits unblocked by decor, stalls or chairs.
  • Provide emergency lighting if the event runs after dark.
  • Brief your event team on where the exits and first-aid points are.

Do you need permission?

Often yes, but the rules depend on the venue, the size of the gathering and the local authority. Common items that may be required include:

  • Permission from the venue owner or society, which is almost always needed.
  • Local police permission for large gatherings or public events, depending on the area.
  • Municipal or local body permission for use of public land or roads.
  • Fire or electrical clearance for large setups, some venues or exhibitions.
  • Sound and loudspeaker permission, for events with music.

These requirements change, so confirm them with the venue and the relevant local office well before the event. Siraj Decorators can share structure details such as dimensions, layout and materials that you may need for an application.

Safety questions to ask any supplier

  1. Who installs the structure, and are they experienced with this size?
  2. Is the roof fabric fire-retardant?
  3. How is the frame anchored on my surface?
  4. What is the wind and weather plan?
  5. Will someone supervise on site on the event day?
