The size of a German hanger on paper is not the space you can use. The stage, buffet, aisles and exits all take floor. Planning the layout first stops you booking too small or paying for space you do not need.
How much floor is left?
Start with the covered area, then take away what the event itself needs:
- Stage and its front clearance.
- Buffet or food counters, including the queue space in front of them.
- Aisles and exits, which should stay clear.
- Dance floor, registration desk, photo area and any stalls.
What remains is the seating and standing area. For a wedding or reception, the stage and buffet together often take a large share of the hall, so it is safer to size by layout than by guest count alone. See our guide to German hanger sizes and capacity for planning figures.
Can the inside be divided into zones?
Yes. Because there are no centre poles, you can divide the hall with drapes, partitions, platforms or decor. Common zones are:
- Entrance and registration.
- Dining or seating.
- Stage and dance floor.
- Lounge or photo area.
Keep the exits visible and unblocked when you place partitions.
Can the walls be opened?
Usually yes. Side panels can be fitted or left open on one or more sides, which suits a lawn or garden view and helps airflow. For a rainy-season event, keep the open sides sheltered or closed. Ask us which sides can be opened for your site.
Can two hangers be joined?
Yes. Hangers are built from bays, so they can be extended or joined to make a bigger hall, or to make connected halls for different uses such as dining and a stage area. A joined hall needs the ground space and anchoring for the full size, so check the site first.
Is there enough headroom?
